Position Summary

The Payroll and HRIS Data Analyst supports the company’s payroll process and human resource data and reporting. This position will evaluate, analyze, and design the Human Resources Information Systems to fulfill the needs of the business. The Payroll and HRIS Analyst acts as the backup for all payroll processing related activities and will be the first point of contact for HR report requests and data analysis. Additionally, this position will work with technical support for payroll system configuration requests. The individual in this position oversees the compliance processing for all garnishments, state and federal reporting and notices, payroll process improvements and system enhancements (working jointly with the Payroll Specialist). 

A Glimpse Into the Position

  • Ensures that the company is using the HRIS system to the fullest to streamline HR and Payroll technology processes
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for HR system administration, enhancements, adoption, user satisfaction and reporting
  • Acts as primary accounting contact and partners with accounting for GLI set up 
  • Works with different States to establish New Business/State tax setup in a timely manner as required
  • Manages Security Roles and Paylocity changes
  • Processes and manages Garnishments and support orders
  • Assists with Time and Attendance Administration
  • Conducts Manager and employee training (new hire orientation, time and attendance training, manager training, etc.)
  • Answers Employee and Manager questions, providing ongoing training and guidance
  • Assists with State, Quarterly and Year End Reporting
  • Responds to Verifications of Employment and Compensation confirmations
  • Serves as back up to the Payroll Specialist in the preparation, processing and review of semi-monthly payroll for multiple locations in a timely, accurate manner and in accordance with Company policy, government regulations and tax codes
  • Reviews, analyzes and audits payroll records for accuracy and makes necessary adjustments or corrections utilizing established procedures
  • Assists in payroll activities related to new hires, terminations, status changes, tax changes, deductions, direct deposits, time sheet data, rate changes, retroactive adjustments, special payments and other transactions affecting payroll, as needed
  • Coordinates and interacts with federal and state agencies on issues pertaining to employee compensation and deductions
  • Maintains employee payroll records and ensures records are current and accurate
  • Develops and generates payroll reports based upon business needs
  • Develops internal customer service standards for addressing payroll-related questions and requests from employees
  • Operates as the subject matter expert and point of escalation to resolve issues
  • Evaluates current processes and makes recommendations for ways to streamline work processes
  • Works with the Vice President, Human Resources to implement improvements and to establish department priorities
  • Responds to payroll audits and implements audit recommendations
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and researching best practices
  • Follows and enforces federal, state and local employment laws
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned

Skills

Education and Qualifications

Four-year degree or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in payroll processing or similar role 
  • 3-5 years of HRIS experience, preferably in analytics and reporting; experience with Paylocity strongly preferred
  • Specialized technical training and in-depth experience with payroll, bookkeeping, accounting and administrative support functions 
  • Advanced skills in Excel including ability to use the VLOOKUP function, complex formulas and other advanced functions
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinker
